Claude Code settings, without hunting for the file

Claude Code reads settings from up to three files per project, plus managed policy. The Config tab edits the common ones at the scope you choose, and saves a snapshot before each change so you can roll back.

Edit Claude Code settings at the scope you mean

Pick the scope first — your user settings, the project's shared file, or the project's local file — then change what you need.

Questions, answered

Where is Claude Code's settings.json?

Yours is ~/.claude/settings.json. A project can add .claude/settings.json (shared) and .claude/settings.local.json (just you). See the map of Claude Code's files.

Can I undo a settings change?

Yes. A snapshot is taken before every write the extension makes; restore any of them from the Config tab.

Can I copy my setup to another machine?

Yes. Export Brain zips your CLAUDE.md, settings, skills, commands, agents, memory and user-level MCP servers; Import Brain previews conflicts before writing them on the other machine.
